We are proud to announce that Delmarie Alicea, pursuing a Juris Doctor degree from Barry University, has won our 2016 LatPro Scholarship award.
Delmarie’s essay was inspirational and written eloquently. After working her way up to become a litigation paralegal in a prominent law firm, she was inspired to retake her studies; currently, Delmarie is in the top third of her law school class. She wishes “to inspire other Hispanics to overcome their obstacles and crush stereotypes to be whatever they dream”. Ultimately, she believes that she will become a more successful law student and lawyer because of the experiences she has amassed, the perseverance she has developed, and the motivation to inspire her children “to follow their dreams and fulfill their purpose no matter what curves life throws their way”.
Delmarie’s intelligence, perseverance, and obvious drive will no doubt allow her success in her chosen career as a Lawyer.
The seven finalists – Delmarie Alicea, Aracely Duerkop, Madeliene Smith-Ledford, Sofia Gomez, Peter Mahon, Jennifer Russo and Sofia Martinez Oronoz – were selected from hundreds of other applicants for their dedication to learning, desire to make a positive impact on the world, and how their incredible stories have helped mold their future career paths. Choosing one winner was an incredibly difficult decision considering the exceptional student applicants and quality of their essays.
We want to thank our site visitors and all who voted to help us select a winner. The support shown through positive comments left for these students affirms both their career paths and the wonderful impact they already have on the lives of others.
